FAQ

Frequent Asked Questions

Q: How much is the Consultation?

A: S297

Q: What’s a brain map?

A: The brain map is also called quantitative electroencephalography (QEEG). Its analysis involves recording digital EEG signals, which are processed, transformed and analyzed using complex mathematical algorithms. The QEEG/Brain map is an extensive exam used at Harvard, UCLA, Utah, South Carolina, and Tennessee. It will provide a picture of the patient’s brain wave patterns and help Dr. Serle determine the areas of concern in the brain.

Q: Are there any side effects with a brain map?

A: No, the Brain Map is Non-Invasive. There’s no current going into the brain. The brain map records electric impulses (brainwaves) just like an EKG records electrical impulses from the heart.

Q: Are the Neurofeedback training sessions dangerous?

A:  It is completely painless and noninvasive and is considered by the Food and Drug Administration to be safe. In fact, the Food and Drug Administration recognizes that neurofeedback has NEVER produced a serious side effect since it was first discovered over 40 years ago

Q: Do you take insurance?

A: Like all Neurofeedback centers, we do not accept insurance, but we do provide an invoice for the patient to submit to their insurance for reimbursement.

Q: How much is a Neurofeedback session?

A: It depends on how many sessions you need (determined after reading the Brain Map results) and if you are performing the sessions at home or at our office. The Neurofeedback Home units (are performed at the patient’s home, and the information is sent to Dr. Serle’s computer so he may monitor the progress. The Neurofeedback Home Units are between $40 and $55 per session. The Neurofeedback Office session is between $80 to $100 per session.

Q: How many sessions does one need to see results?

A: It depends on the patient’s history and the results of the Brain Map. Mild cases take 20-30 sessions. Moderate cases take about 30-40 sessions. Significant cases can take 40-60 sessions or more. The average amount is 30 sessions.

Q: Are the results permanent?

A:  The changes are permanent! Once the patient’s brain learns how and when to produce a certain brainwave, that ability becomes embedded in a permanent circuit within the brain. The formation of this new circuitry is referred to as Neuroplasticity and is the theoretical basis for how we learn.

Q: What makes Dr. Serle different from other neurofeedback doctors?

A: Dr. Serle has extensive experience in neurology and uses this experience to provide patients with amino acid therapy and neurotransmitter testing of serotonin and dopamine, which is not mandatory. Also, Dr. Serle may provide the patient with a healthy diet for the brain, which is also optional.

Q: Do you work with people out of state or live far away?

A: After an office consultation and receiving the results of the brain map, we can provide a patient with a Home Unit System of Neurofeedback. All the training sessions performed at the patient’s home will connect to Dr. Serle’s Neurofeedback System so he may see the patient’s performance.

Q: What’s the age requirement?

A: Must be five years old or older
